Create your perfect Aston Martin

Aston Martin Lagonda is a British independent manufacturer of luxury sports cars and grand tourers. Its predecessor was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford.
To help customers find the perfect configuration, the consultancy MHP has partnered with us to build a state of the art experience that is available as a live streaming solution for every car enthusiast out there.
PANDA took care of the conceptual part for all user interface related tasks, followed by the application design and coordination of the frontend-development.
„The experience of buying an Aston Martin should be as pleasurable as owning one and our new configurator has been created with this in mind.“
Tobias Moers, Aston Martin Lagonda
The Aston Martin Configurator UI is implemented as a web application driven by Angular and Angular Material and can be run in every modern browser – desktop, tablet and mobile.
We implemented the Aston Martin Configurator UI from scratch and took part in the architectural decisions that were required to be made for the UI to be able to communicate with the application backend that was crafted by MHP.
The options that are chosen by the user are translated into high-resolution images by an Unreal Engine application running on GPU instances in the Google Cloud. Being able to seamlessly switch to 3D streaming mode, the user can move and zoom almost freely to take a look at his personalised Aston Martin in an even more detailed way.
From day one, we put focus on keeping the UI responsive (in sense of performance) by making extensive use of reactive structures reliably connecting different parts of the UI.
Also we had to figure out how to deliver two versions of the configurator, namely one for the public and for the Aston Martin dealers, with a slightly different feature-set without unnecessarily increasing bundle-size for each.
To complement the experience, every customer is able to download a personal PDF with all selected options and high-quality renderings of their perfect Aston Martin.
